With just two weeks remaining in the ACC season, the race for the conference championship has eliminated the pretenders and left fans with three clear cut contenders—Duke, North Carolina and Florida State. Interestingly enough, this was more-or-less as predicted in the preseason, although after Florida State’s non-conference struggles no one anticipated the Seminoles’ strong comeback [...]...

The ACC has long been considered one of the stronger conference’s in the country. Yet in recent years the ACC has slipped in the National standings. There are many theories as to why this has happen, some are valid, some are mythical. Carolina and Duke remain among the top of both the ACC and National standings. [...]...

According to a tweet by Jason Jordan of ESPN, Nerlens Noel has told the Duke coaching staff that he does not have any interest in being recruited by the Blue Devils. In an appearance on this morning’s Dan Patrick Show, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski weighed in on Jeremy Lin, who played for former Blue Devil point guard Tommy Amaker at Harvard. “The kid’s for real,” Krzyzewski said. “Everybody should just give him credit. This isn’t the hula hoop or something, it’s not going to go [...]...

Amile Jefferson’s high school team, Friends’ Central, won their fourth straight state independent schools championship over the weekend. Despite battling an ankle injury, the Duke target finished with 14 points. Now that Jefferson’s high school season is over, fans can expect Jefferson to announce his college decision soon. Online rumors indicate there is a chance [...]...

It wasn’t Dukes best performance on the road this year but it was a convincing win in Chesnut Hills 75-50. Duke was much improved on defense holding the freshman laden Boston College Eagles to only 50 points on 34% shooting.  At one point the Eagles went more than 14 minutes without making a basket something that they never could recover from and Duke, with a stronger, more organized effort on offense could have easily gone in at the half...

It’s not often in sports that a streak can last 55 years, but that’s exactly what we have in Clemson vs UNC when playing in Chapel Hill. It lives and continues to grow  as the longest running winless streak in NCAA history. One would have though in a series that started in 1926 that this couldn’t be [...]...

John Prine, a little known musician/singer/songwriter to most people has a song entitled ‘In Spite Of Ourselves.’  The song speaks of no matter what, ‘we’ll wind up sittin on a rainbow’. So goes the last 9 days for the Blue Devils. After it looked as if the rival Heels would beat Duke with a 10 point [...]...

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) No deficit seems too deep these days for No. 5 Duke — even if the Blue Devils insist they can't afford to keep winning this way. For the second time in nine days, Duke staged a remarkable comeback to beat a neighborhood rival. This time they rallied from 20 points down with 11 1/2 minutes left and topped North Carolina State 78-73 on Thursday night. ''I'm tired of doing this, to tell you the truth,'' freshman guard Austin Rive...

Wow, again? Really? Well that’s what I get for doubting this team….again. Duke was able, once again, to claw it’s way back from a seemingly insurmountable lead to pull it out against N.C. State 78-73.  In a game where a slow start could hardly be afforded, but per Duke’s modus operandi, that is exactly what happened. It was a garbage half of basketball for the Devils who went in at the half down by 16 points. No one played pa...

Following one of the greatest comebacks in Cameron Indoor Stadium history, the Blue Devils were appreciative of one of the loudest student sections of the 2011-12 season. Here’s a sampling of what the team had to say: “Our crowd was amazing. They fought with us the whole way. When we were down 20 points they [...]...

Coming off of 3 straight ACC wins NC State will be hungry to get a signature win at Duke. The way the Devils have played at home this year nothing is a sure thing. Duke as played better the last 2 games defense is still not a strong suit of this team. Momentum is a fragile thing and Coach K is urging his team to leave the past in the past, nothing about the UNC or the MD game matters tonight. If Duke goes in believing the hype then they are sure...

The Sports Network By Lucas Gulotta, Associate College Basketball Editor: Duke and NC State have met 235 times heading into tonight as the series dates back to 1912. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 138-97, including a 46-23 mark at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke has won two straight and five of the last six in the rivalry. NC State has lost in its last 13 visits to Durham, and has been outscored by an average of 18.2 ppg during that span.

Sorry, Malcolm Gladwell. Your thoughtful book filled with examples of tipping points has been seized by us pseudo-writers, and transformed into a meme of sorts. Not like a Ryan Gosling “meme” but a more meaningful one. Thus far, Duke’s task has been Sisyphean. We keep pushing the obstacle in our way toward the top of [...]...

Junior walk-on Todd Zafirovski has been extended an invitation to try out for the Macedonian national basketball team. Today is Coach Mike Krzyzewski ‘s Birthday. Born Feb 13 1947. Known respectfully as Coach K to his fans. “We’re turning the corner, and we’re not going back.” Such was a popular refrain when President Bush was running for re-election in 2004. With a UNC win and a win by Florida State Duke needed a win at home to keep pace, and with the last two conference home games being losses, nothing was certain. Expected after the extreme high of the Carolina last second win was a bit of a let down for the Devils, and the first half provided that a bit with MD taking the early lead on Dukes home floor. The culprits for Dukes slow start were turnovers and shot selection. It allowed MD a bit of a c...
