Tyus Jones to Visit Duke for CTC
It’s official. The news some of us have been wishing for is finally coming true. Tyus Jones, the highly touted point guard from the class of 2014, is going to visit Duke for the first time during Countdown to Craziness. Though I have been hearing rumors about this possible visit for the past few months, nothing has been confirmed until this past week. Needless to say, this is huge news for Duke.
Tyus Jones is an incredible point guard out of the Minneapolis/Twin Cities area who reminds many people (including myself) of ACC legend and NBA superstar, Chris Paul. Getting any recruit on campus during Countdown to Craziness is huge news but, Jones still has the chance to attend other school’s Midnight Madness events because of the date separation. Duke’s Countdown to Craziness is on October 19th, most school’s Midnight Madness is a week before on October 12th. Technically speaking, he could go to both Duke and Michigan State’s opening events. Nonetheless, this is a great sign for Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils.
However, there is more to this story than just getting a top five prospect on campus, Jones could be accompanied by a few other top recruits as well. I have heard there is a chance that Jahlil Okafor, Theo Pinson, and Justise Winslow might join Tyus Jones on his visit. It is well known that Jones and Okafor have expressed interest in playing for the same school and, if Coach K were to make it happen, getting both of them on campus for a visit at the same time would be the best possible situation.
Though I have a good feeling with how Duke’s 2013 recruiting class will finish, I have an even better feeling about the class of 2014. Right now, I believe the class of 2014 could be one of Duke’s greatest recruiting classes and, subsequently, could position us for a national title. Needless to say, Coach K has a long way to go with the class of 2014 but getting Tyus Jones (and possibly others) to attend Countdown to Craziness is the first step in making that recruiting class great.
Note: Today, was Duke’s in-home visit with 2013’s number one prospect, Julius Randle. Coach K requested the whole day to be free so let’s hope he makes a strong pitch and lands this monster power forward out of Texas.
