Duke Ranked Third, Ingram, Allen Honored by Media

DukeCTC2015-26The Duke men’s basketball team opens the 2015-16 campaign as the third-ranked team in the ACC Preseason Poll, as voted on by members of the media Wednesday at the annual ACC Operation Basketball, held in Charlotte, N.C. In addition to the third-place preseason team ranking, members of the media also voted freshman Brandon Ingram ACC Preseason Freshman of the Year, as well as named the rookie to the 2015-16 Preseason All-ACC first team with 29 votes. Sophomore Grayson Allen garnered a spot on the second team with 27 votes.

Duke garnered eight first-place votes and ranked in the top five of the preseason poll for the ninth consecutive year. North Carolina received 60 first-place votes to take the top spot in the preseason poll, while Virginia (No. 2), Notre Dame (No. 4) and Miami (No. 5) rounded out the top five. Florida State ranked just outside the top five with a sixth-place preseason ranking, while the remainder of the poll included No. 7 Louisville, No. 8 NC State, No. 9 Syracuse, No. 10 Pittsburgh, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 12 Clemson, No. 13 Georgia Tech, No. 14 Virginia Tech and No. 15 Boston College.

Ingram, who was voted as the conference’s rookie of the year on 82 casted ballots, is joined by North Carolina’s Marcus Paige, Virginia’s Malcolm Brogdon, Xavier Rathan-Mayes of Florida State and Demetrius Jackson of Notre Dame. Allen is accompanied by Virginia’s Anthony Gill, Notre Dame’s Zach Auguste, NC State’s Anthony Barber and North Carolina’s Brice Johnson on the all-conference second team.

The Blue Devils welcome Florida Southern to Cameron Indoor Stadium Friday, Oct. 30, for an exhibition game. The contest is set for a 7 p.m. start.
