Duke in the NBA Draft Mailbag

With the NBA Draft taking place tonight, let’s take a look at the most pressing questions involving your favorite Blue Devils.

Is there any chance that Zion does not go #1?

Well…there’s always a chance but there’s more of a chance you’ll see Coach K with a gray hair than Zion not being drafted #1.

Are the Pelicans going to trade up to get R.J.?

There has been a lot of talk that the Pelicans may move up in the draft to take R.J. First it was possibly with the Knicks but they don’t seem interested in moving. Recently the talk has been the Pelicans trying to get enough assets to trade with Memphis and acquire the second pick to get R.J. But is Memphis interested in passing up on Ja Morant, especially since they dealt Mike Conley to the Jazz for Grayson Allen and others? Even with the fourth pick the Grizzlies could select Darius Garland or Coby White as their next PG (that’s if New Orleans doesn’t include Lonzo Ball in the deal).

Where will Cam Reddish go?

Most mock drafts have Reddish going #8 overall to the Atlanta Hawks. Which wouldn’t be a bad spot for him. He would be playing with an exciting young point guard in Trae Young and big man John Collins. The pressure wouldn’t be there for him to be an instant star as it may in other places like possibly Cleveland who is still trying to find a way to replace LeBron James.

Will Marques Bolden get drafted?

The odds are not in Bolden’s favor to be drafted. While he has an outside shot of being a late second round pick, it would probably in his best interest to not be selected. He would then have the option to pick the team he signs with which could give him a better shot of finding the right spot for his development.

Of the Duke players who get drafted tonight who will have the longer NBA career & why?

Most people would guess Zion, but I actually think it will be R.J. The reason being is Zion is a lot more physical and a freak of nature. Injuries (such as the one he suffered his past season) could end up shortening his career.

With Brandon Ingram and Grayson Allen being traded, are there other Blue Devils who could be traded tonight?

While it’s possible someone like a Gary Trent Jr. or Frank Jackson could be dealt in a move for their salary, it’s likely anymore movement won’t happen until Free Agency starts and players can sign with new teams.
