Two former Duke basketball players will take part in an exciting tournament next month. The Basketball Tournament will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from June 6-28, and Dahntay Jones and Shavlik Randolph will both be playing in the event.
The Basketball Tournament will feature 32 teams who battle for the $500,000 grand prize that goes to the championship team.
Many former NCAA stars will be participating, and Jones and Randolph will be playing for Team Barstool, alongside other recognizable names such as Quincy Douby (Rutgers), Josh Boone (UConn), Andre Barrett (Seton Hall), Matt Walsh (Florida), and Donny McGrath & Ryan Gomes (Providence).
Other recognizable names in the field include former ACC players: Sean Singletary, Rashad McCants and Sammy Zeglinski.
The five-on-five, winner-take-all format of The Basketball Tournament also features some unique elements where fans have the opportunity to get involved through social media. An unlimited number of teams were able to apply for entry in the tournament, but the top 24 teams were selected based on the number of votes each team gathered and the tournament directors selected an additional eight teams. The voting closed over the weekend and the official selections are now being made.
Fans will again have the chance to get involved with the tournament leading up to the championship game, when they can vote on the location of the final as well as the amount of time used for the shot clock.
The first four rounds will be held at Philadelphia University, June 6-8, with the championship game on June 28 at a location still to be determined.
In looking at the rosters, it appears Dahntay Jones and Shavlik Randolph appear to be playing with one of the strongest teams in the field. With a combination of players who had tremendous NCAA, and some moderate NBA success, they have a great chance to reach the championship game, depending on the health and fitness of their team.
You can find out more about their Team Barstool on the team information page and learn more about The Basketball Tournament on the tournament main page.
Best of luck to Dahntay and Shavlik!
