2018 PG Tre Jones Commits to Duke

Duke picked up its first member of the 2018 recruiting class today with a commitment from Tre Jones.

He made the announcement Sunday afternoon at a ceremony at a local church in Minnesota.

Jones is a 6’3” 5-star point guard from Apple Valley, Minnesota, who’s currently ranked as the No. 1 point guard and No. 9 overall player in the 247Sports Composite rankings for the class of 2018.

He led his Apple Valley High School team to the Minnesota State Championship this past season and was also one of the best players in the Nike EYBL this summer.

He selected the Blue Devils out of a final list of schools that included UCLA, Ohio State, Oregon, USC, and Minnesota.

Duke was regarded as the favorite all along for Tre, and the program showed what a priority he was by making him the first visit for the coaching staff during the spring period. The Jones family also already had a relationship with the Duke program as Tre is the younger brother of Tyus, who had a fantastic lone season as a Blue Devil in 2015 before departing for the NBA after winning a national championship and Final Four MOP honors.

Now, Tre will also be part of the Duke family.

He becomes the first player in the class of 2018 to commit to the Blue Devils and could help get momentum rolling for other top targets around the country. Duke is also pursuing fellow 5-star point guard Darius Garland, who has talked openly about being interested in teaming up with Jones in college.

Welcome to Duke, Tre!
