Moments ago, Duke received it’s latest commitment in the Class of 2021 from Jaylen Blakes.
Blakes is a 6-2 PG from Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ where from Blue Devil Luol Deng attended in high school. Duke officially offered him on April 12th.
Jaylen is currently ranked 87th overall and 34th among point guards according to 247Sports.com.
A spot for a backup PG opened up when senior Jordan Goldwire decided to become a grad transfer and spend his final season of eligibility elsewhere. While Blakes may not play as much as Goldwire did last season, Duke fans should be excited to watch him grow as a player over the next four years in Durham.
In an interview with 247Sports, he said “I’m extremely competitive, I’m a two-way player that takes pride in going to battle with my teammates with the common goal of winning. I am known as a three-level scorer and I am continuing to improve in that aspect and I am tough on defense. I pride myself on being tough and playing with pride on offense and on defense because if you’re stopping your man from scoring and you’re scoring on the other end then you’re plus-minus is high. I try to demonstrate leadership and intensity on the court. You can never be satisfied with where you are so I am consistently trying to find ways to improve my game on and off the court and this includes spending time in the gym, connecting with my coaches and my mentors and watching film, both college and NBA games, so I am always trying to improve my game.”
