Moments ago, during halftime of the Geico Nationals semi-final matchup between Montverde Academy and AZ Compass, Trevor Keels announced he would be attending Duke University in the Fall to play for Coach K and the Blue Devils.

Keels, 6′ 5″, is ranked as the #16 overall prospect (#2 shooting guard) according to 247Sports.com. He selected Duke over Villanova, Virginia, and Kentucky.

Jerry Mayer, Director of Basketball Scouting for 247Sports, says Keels has “tremendous physical strength for a shooting guard. Has length as well. Highly competitive with an impressive basketball IQ. Plays a power game but can score from all three levels. Solid ball handler. Good passer. Has strength to be a better rebounder. Solid defender.”

He may most remind Duke fans of former Blue Devil, and current Toronto Raptor, Gary Trent Jr.

Keels should see immediate playing time as the Blue Devils lost D.J. Steward to the NBA Draft. The Blue Devils currently have lost five players from last year’s squad with the possibility of losing a few more in the coming weeks.

He joins Paolo Banchero and AJ Griffin to give Duke the #3 recruiting class for 2021.
