Duke Basketball Recruiting Roundup – June 10 Edition

Grayson-Allen-Duke-Basketball-e1457060854456We only have a few Duke basketball recruiting stories this week as it’s been a relatively slow time on the trail. It’s becoming the doldrums of the college basketball offseason and most of the big news this time of year isn’t good news, so we should be appreciative of this uneventful period.

Nevertheless, here are some headlines from this past week that related to potential Blue Devils on the recruiting trail.

Recruiting Battles to Watch in 2017

This article from ESPN looks at how Duke will likely be involved in some of the most interesting recruiting battles in 2017. Between Wendell Carter and Mohamed Bamba both considering Harvard and Kevin Knox being targeted by Florida State due to his parents both having attended there, Duke could face some interesting challenges aside from the annual battle of beating Kentucky for top players.

Gary Trent & Hami Diallo Highlight Video

This highlight video from Courtside Films features Gary Trent and Hami Diallo facing off against each other at the Pangos All American Camp. There’s not much to take from the video, where it’s obvious that defense was optional, but it does give some perspective on the difference in playing styles between these two 5-star shooting guards. Trent is more of a shooter, while Diallo prefers to attack the rim.

ESPN Releases Player Rankings for 2017 & 2018

ESPN posted its new player rankings for the 2017 & 2018 classes earlier this week and, not surprisingly, Duke is targeting many of the top players in the country. In the class of 2017, the Blue Devils have targeted four of the top 9 guys listed – Wendell Carter (No. 2), Mohamed Bamba (No. 3), Kevin Knox (No. 7), and Gary Trent (No. 9). In the class of 2018, Duke has already offered No. 1 Marvin Bagley, No. 2 Romeo Langford, and No. 5 Cameron Reddish.

Mental Strength is Key for 2017 5-Star Kevin Knox

As one of the top rated wing players in the 2017 class, 5-star forward Kevin Knox is high on the radar of the Duke coaching staff. The 6’7” wing from Tampa, Fl., is considered by many to be one of the players in the class of 2017 with the most potential, and this article by Bay News 9 focuses on how Knox’s mental approach has helped him elevate his game to a new level.

2017 Recruiting Class Wishlist for Duke

Rob Goldberg posted an article on Bleacher Report earlier this week that’s a recruiting wishlist for the Blue Devils in the class of 2017. The list features Mohamed Bamba, Wendell Carter, Gary Trent Jr., Kevin Knox, D.J. Harvey, Deng Gak, and Trevon Duval. Duke appears to be in good shape with many of the players listed, but the Duval one is a reach, especially since he’s not even being recruited by Duke right now.
