The Duke coaching staff already knows Tre Jones comes from good bloodlines, and the Blue Devils offered the younger brother of Tyus Jones a scholarship on Thursday.

According to Darren Wolfson on Twitter, Mike Krzyzewski extended an offer to Jones during a visit to Apple Valley, Minnesota on Thursday. Coach K also met with 2017 5-star shooting guard Gary Trent Jr., who is also from Apple Valley.

Tre is listed by Rivals.com as a 4-star recruit in the class of 2018. The offer makes him the second player in the 2018 class to receive an offer from the Blue Devils, along with No. 1 ranked Marvin Bagley.

He helped his Apple Valley team win the Minnesota 4A State Championship this past season and was named to the USA Basketball U16 National Team over the summer.

Duke fans will likely only be familiar with Tre Jones because his older brother Tyus helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2015 national championship as one of the best clutch players in the history of the program, Tre has his own unique set of skills.

He’s regarded as a better defender than Tyus was at the same age, and coaches already praise his ability to steady a team and make smart plays. That part sounds familiar.

There’s still a long way to go in this recruitment, but it’s good to see Duke establishing an early relationship with Tre. You’d have to think Coach K has a unique recruiting advantage in this situation.

During his playing days, David perfected his role on his basketball team as being the guy who would hold everyone on the bench back after a teammate would make a clutch shot. He once played N.C. State legend David Thompson in a game of H-O-R-S-E. David won.
