Jabari Parker set to Visit Duke, Vonleh Reclassifies

Often regarded as the number one recruit in the nation, Jabari Parker is a hot commodity for most top programs.

Sports Illustrated even went as far as proclaiming him the best high school basketball player since current NBA superstar, LeBron James. I wouldn’t go quite that far, but nevertheless, Parker is a great player and that is why the news of him officially visiting Duke is extremely exciting.

Parker is a 6’8″ small forward out of Chicago, Illinois and is one of three targets from the class of 2013 that Duke is seriously pursuing (along with Austin Nichols and Julius Randle). Today, the news leaked that Parker will visit Durham on October 27th-28th during the Blue Devils first exhibition game against Western Washington.

Though some have argued that Parker is a luxury recruit because of Duke’s stockpile of skilled wing players, Parker would instantly be Duke’s go to scorer if they were to land him. He could even play some power forward due to his multifaceted offensive game. Hopefully Coach K and company can build upon their successful in-home visit and land this highly recruited forward from the class of 2013.

In other news, with the announcement of Noah Vonleh reclassifying to the class of 2013, Duke’s staff has reached out to him. I’m not sure how interested Duke is because they typically do not land players like Vonleh, but it is an interesting bit of news. I feel that he would fit perfectly on Duke’s current squad but we will have to wait and see if Coach K offers him. If he does offer, I am intrigued to see how this will affect the recruitment of Nichols and Randle.
