Last night during the Duke vs. Boston College game on ESPN, legendary broadcaster Dick Vitale was discussing Coach K’s grandson, Michael Savarino. He was talking about how he’s an accomplished basketball player and that he would be a preferred walk-on for the 2019-20 season.

This caught quite a few off guard as there has been no official announcement about his plans for college.

I reached out to Duke Athletics who confirmed that Vitale was correct and that Savarino will be a preferred walk-on next year.

Savarino is a 6’0″ PG who is averaging 7.5 pts, 3 asts, 3.5 rebs, and a steal per game in his senior season for Durham Academy.

While there will be a lot of pressure on the young man playing for the greatest coach of all time, it must also be a huge thrill for him and the entire Krzyzewski and Savarino family.

Could this also mean we’ll have at least four more years of Coach K at Duke? Blue Devil fans can hope.
