Duke Basketball: Blue Devils Begin Season with Open Practice

The Duke basketball team kicked off the 2015-16 season on Friday afternoon with an open practice at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Coming off the program’s fifth national championship, this year’s Blue Devils will look to repeat as champions with a team built around an almost entirely new cast of characters.

Incoming freshmen Luke Kennard, Derryck Thornton, Brandon Ingram, and Chase Jeter are all expected to play important roles for the team this season, though the first practice was a quick reminder that this year’s incoming class is different from many ways compared to last year’s talented freshmen.

Duke will also have to lean heavily on its returning players from last season’s championship squad, particularly Grayson Allen and the tri-captains of Matt Jones, Marshall Plumlee, and Amile Jefferson.

However, even with all the roster turnover and transition, Coach K has shown one of his greatest strengths is to build each season around the strengths of each individual team.

If you didn’t get a chance to catch the live stream of practice on the Blue Devil Network or didn’t see any of the posts about it on social media, we’ve put together a list of some of the tweets and videos from those in attendance.

Duke will open play on October 30 with an exhibition against Livingstone and the first official game of the season will be against Siena at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday, November 13.

Get excited! College basketball is almost here!
