We are less than two weeks away from getting to see the Blue Devils at Countdown to Craziness.
While fans are excited to see this year’s team, recruiting never stops for Duke Basketball.
Here are some of the top headlines from the past week.
In his recent USA Today Blog R.J. Barrett, the #1 player in 2019, wrote that he will be making his announcement on November 10th. He has cut his list down to three schools: Duke, Oregon and Kentucky. Could the Blue Devils add Barrett to a class that already includes Tre Jones (#6 player) and Cam Reddish (#4 player)? They currently hold a sizable lead in the Crystal Ball over Kentucky.
Several months ago it was expected by many that Darius Garland would be a Blue Devil in 2019. Fans were envisioning a backcourt similar to the Quinn Cook and Tyus Jones one that helped lead Duke to the National Championship in 2015. With R.J. Barett reclassifying from 2019 to 2018, it no longer appears Garland is considering Duke. He recently spoke with Scout and listed his final four schools: Indiana, Kentucky, UCLA and Vanderbilt. Leaving Duke off his list has to bode well for landing Barrett.
Zion Williamson will be visiting Duke for Countdown to Craziness (he visited last year as well). He sat down with Rivals.com to give an update on his recruitment:
Vernon Carey is the #1 player in 2019. He is a 6’9″ PF out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. He told Evan Daniels that Michigan State and Duke are recruiting him the hardest at the moment. Miami is currently leading in the Crystal Ball for him. His father played football for the Hurricanes and went on to play seven seasons for the Miami Dolphins. With the recent scandal and FBI investigation that could push Carey to consider schools.
