Grayson Allen Wins the 2016 POTGOTY Award

Grayson Allen, POTGOTY

We here at Duke Report would like to congratulate Grayson Allen for winning the 2016 POTGOTY Award. POTGOTY stands for Player of the Game of the Year. The award goes out to the Blue Devil who was chosen as the Player of the Game most often throughout the season and is exclusive to Duke Report. Past winners include Jahlil Okafor, Jabari Parker, Mason Plumlee, Austin Rivers, Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler (twice) and DeMarcus Nelson.

In Allen’s second year as a Blue Devil he averaged 21.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg, and 3.5 apg. He was named  second-team All-American by the Sporting News, third-team All-American by the AP and NACB, first-team All-ACC and should have been named All-ACC Most Improved, as he improved his scoring output by 17 points a game this season.

Allen edged out freshman Brandon Ingram (11) to win the award this season. Maybe the most surprising number was that Marshall Plumlee was named POTG six times. There was a point this season when Duke was on the brink of collapse but Plumlee’s heart and emotion carried this team to some key victories.

Below is the final POTG breakdown from this season. As you can see, it was pretty much a 2-man show compared to last season.

Grayson Allen – 14
Brandon Ingram – 11
Marshall Plumlee – 6
Luke Kennard – 3
Amile Jefferson – 1
Matt Jones – 1
