Duke senior captain Matt Jones will compete in the Great Clips Men’s 3-Point Shooting Championship Thursday at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix. The 29th annual event will air on ESPN at 10 p.m. ET.

Jones has been selected for the eight-man field alongside Bryce Alford (UCLA), Torian Graham (Arizona State), Kris Jenkins (Villanova), Peter Jok (Iowa), Nazareth Mitrou-Long (Iowa State), DeWayne Russell (Grand Canyon) and Derrick Walton, Jr. (Michigan).

The DeSoto, Texas, native finished his Duke career as a .370 shooter from long distance, going 170-of-459 from 2014-17. Over his last three seasons in a Duke uniform, he connected on 38.8 percent (165-of-425) of his 3-point tries.

Jones scored 55.9 percent of his career points (510-of-912) from outside the arc. The two-time captain had his best shooting year as a junior, finishing fifth in the ACC in 3-point percentage (.415) and 10th in 3-pointers per game (2.2).

One of the defining moments of Jones’ Duke career came in the 2017 ACC Tournament final, when he nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing with less than a minute on the clock to effectively seal the Blue Devils’ win over Notre Dame and their 20th ACC Tournament crown.

Jones played in 143 games for Duke, tied for the eighth-most in program history, and helped lead the Blue Devils to a 113-30 (.790) record in those contests. His timely 3-point shooting and defensive efforts were integral in Duke’s run to the 2015 NCAA championship.

Duke finished the season with a 28-9 record, making its 22nd consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The Blue Devils made history at the ACC Tournament in Brooklyn, becoming the first team ever to win four games in as many days to capture the crown. Duke has won a record 20 ACC Tournament titles, including 14 under Coach K – the most in league history by a coach.
