Selection Sunday Interview with Bracketologist Shelby Mast of BracketWag.com

It’s the final week of the college basketball regular season which means we are little more than one week away from Selection Sunday. There are still a lot of moving parts for the Selection Committee and the next week could be big to many of the top teams seeding, especially Duke.

We sat down with Shelby Mast, who is the official bracketologist for CollegeInsider.com and USA Today. He is the third most accurate bracketologist for those who have 9+ years of experience. Shelby was also an Inaugural Super10 Mock Selection Committee member sponsored by the NCAA and Turner Sports. He runs BracketWag.com. Make sure to give him a follow on Twitter @BracketWAG.

How does Zion Williamson’s injury affect the committee’s view of Duke and their seed?

If he returns and is healthy, chances are good they will be the #1 overall seed as they’ve only lost 1 game at full strength. If he doesn’t come back – could be looking at a 2 seed, maybe even out West.

If Duke (with a healthy Zion) were to beat UNC this coming Saturday but lose in the Semis/Championship of the ACC Tournament, what seed do you think they would receive?

1

Looking at your current bracket, you have Kentucky, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Villanova in Duke’s bracket. How far do you see them going in the NCAA Tournament as that region is currently constructed?

Final 4 – they are the best team in the country when fully healthy. Anything other than at least the final 4 will be a shocker to me.

What do you think is the key to Duke making the Final Four from this region?

Stay healthy, play in control

As your bracket looks today, who would be in your Final Four?

With Zion – Michigan, UNC, Duke, Zags

Without – Texas Tech takes Duke’s place
