DURHAM, N.C. –The Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca professional basketball team in Spain announced this week that former Duke freshman Angela Salvadores has signed a three-year contract with the squad beginning with the 2016-17 campaign.
Avenida is the professional team Salvadores grew up wanting to play for and is located only two hours away from her home in Spain.
Salvadores, a native of Leon, Spain, started 15-of-29 contests as a rookie in 2015-16, while averaging 8.7 points, 3.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals. The 5-10 guard hit 26 three-pointers and dished a Duke-best 94 assists on the year.
In the summer of 2014, Salvadores produced what is considered one of the greatest individual displays in women’s youth basketball scoring 40 points in the gold medal game at the FIBA U17 World Championship for women as Spain came within a basket of toppling the United States from their throne for the first time in history.
In the championship, Salvadores was named MVP as she averaged 19.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.6 assists in seven contests. Against the United States in the championship game, the 5-10 guard hit 16-of-29 field goals and 5-of-7 three-pointers. Salvadores also competed in the 2014 U18 European Championship, FIBA U19 World Championship and the FIBA U18 European Championship with Spain.
