GREENSBORO, N.C. – With 18 holes remaining at the ACC Championship, the Duke women’s golf team sits in third place and 17 shots off the team lead as Virginia continues to lead action at the 6,089-yard, par 72 Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Virginia has totaled rounds of 283 and 290 for a three-under-par, 573, while Wake Forest turned in a team-best three-under, 285, Saturday to move into second with a 579. Duke collected a 294 on Friday and followed that with a 296 in round two for a 14-over, 590. North Carolina (594), Clemson (597), North Carolina (598), Miami (602), Florida State (606), Louisville (606), Notre Dame (609), Boston College (613) and Virginia Tech (630) closed out the field.

The Cavaliers are looking for their second straight ACC Championship and the Blue Devils will need a low score Sunday to try to claim their 20th overall league title. Duke opened the day on the comeback trail and made the turn at two-under, but the Blue Devils couldn’t maintain the under par round on the back nine.

Duke freshman Virginia Elena Carta turned in Duke’s best round of the day, which was propelled by birdies on No. 1 and No. 5 to open the morning. Carta, who is from Udine, Italy, made the turn at two-under, 33. She started the back nine with bogeys on No. 10, No. 12 and No. 13 to fall back to one-over, but closed with five straight pars to finish with a 73. She enters the final round tied 11th overall with a three-over, 147. Carta hit a team-high 16 greens, 11 fairways and had 37 putts.

Looking for her second straight ACC Individual Championship, sophomore Leona Maguire will have her work cut out for her as she is tied fifth with a one-over, 145, which is eight shots off the lead. Virginia’s Lauren Coughlin leads the pack with a seven-under, 137. Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest (140), Lauren Diaz-Yi of Virginia (141) and Sierra Sims of Wake Forest (142) enter the final round as the only other under par golfers in the field.

Maguire, who hails from Cavan, Ireland, had another slow start to her day with four bogeys over her first six holes and made the turn with a four-over, 39. The reigning National Player of the Year made two strokes up with back-to-back birdies on No. 10 and No. 11, but suffered a bogey on No. 12. Maguire dropped to five-over for the day, after suffering a double-bogey on No. 15. She closed strong for the second straight day with two straight birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to finish with a 75. Maguire hit 13 greens, 11 fairways and had 32 putts.

Junior Sandy Choi signed for a second consecutive 18-hole ledger of 74 and is tied 14th overall with a four-over, 148. A native of Seoul, South Korea, Choi registered nine pars over her first 10 holes to go along with a bogey on No. 3. She had a bogey on No. 11, but came back with a birdie on the 12th to get back to one-over-par. Choi added a bogey on No. 17 and par on No. 18 to finish with a 74. She hit 12 fairways, 15 greens and had 35 putts in the second round.

Continuing her solid play in her second ACC Championship, sophomore Lisa Maguire notched three birdies on the day, while finishing with a 74. Her round of 74 matched a season best for the Cavan, Ireland product. Maguire held a four-over-par ledger through 13 holes, but closed with birdies on No. 16 and No. 18 to finish the round.

Senior Celine Boutier featured Duke’s best start of the morning with birdies on No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5 to move to three-under-par. She suffered a bogey on No. 6, after making the turn at two-under-par, but she rolled in her fourth birdie of the day on No. 10 to get back to three-under.

Boutier, who is from Montrouge, France, came to the 363-yard, par four 13th and struggled finishing with a nine to drop back to two-over. Over her first two days of action, Boutier has played hole 13 at nine-over-par. She closed the final five holes at one-over with a bogey on No. 17 as she signed with a 75. Boutier is 12-over-par for the tournament, but nine of those strokes are on two holes – No. 13. She is tied 46th overall with a 156.

Duke will tee off Sunday beginning at 9:20 a.m., along with Wake Forest and Virginia.
